A good book for someone who doesn't take life too seriously.  This is a book written by a comedian so expect a lot of stand-up like humor.  The main focus of which is euphemisms and how society tries to be politically correct and ease everyone's suffering by changing words around.  There are several sections that are just random one-liner jokes and short paragraphs with almost no relation to each other.  A good read, and there are a few parts that do make you think, although I don't know if that was their intention.  Not a heavy read, and quite fun to read.

Movie Review #1 & #2

Just got back from watching Sherlock Holmes and The Book of Eli, will review while its still fresh.

Sherlock Holmes - I was not pleased with what they did to the detective.  From what I read of Arthur Conan Doyle Holmes wasn't much of a fighter.  He preferred to use his mind to solve crimes.  I don't recall him ever getting into a boxing match or gun fight with an adversary.  In fact the only recollection I have of his using any violence was against Moriarty at the end of the series.  Needless to say, I was not happy with what they turned him into.  And the whole cult religion thing was a bit ridiculous. 7/10 for good action and at least putting SOME logic and detective skills in the movie.

The Book of Eli - Now this movie I liked.  I think Denzel Washington did a very good job.  The story was very captivating, although it did tend to get dry between action scenes.  And although I expected a twist, the twist was not what I expected.  I think I would have enjoyed it more, however I had other things on my mind at that point so I wasn't able to fully immerse myself into the movie. 8/10

Week in Review 01/24/10

Lets see here.  Week in review... what did I do?

I finished Magician: Apprentice last week.  Loved it.  Went out and bought the next book in the series Magician: Master.  Also bought Fahrenheit 451, For Love of Evil (Book 6 of the Incarnations of Immortality), Goblin War (Book 3 of the Jig the Goblin series), and When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?  I plan on reading Magician: Master, WWJBtPC, and the Prince this week.  I'm behind on my books and need to catch up.  I also picked up Final Fantasy Tactics for Playstation One.  A classic.

Now where did I get all those good books and hard to find game you ask?  Bookmans Entertainment Exchange in Mesa, AZ.  My new place of the week.  They specialize in used books, but also carry a large assortment of magazines, movies, dvds, games, records, and even board games.  When they say entertainment they aren't kidding.

Not a whole lot else going on.  Cleaned up the apartment, sorta.  Still have this cough/sore throat I've had since November.  I went home sick from work on Wed due to a cough/migraine combo that KO'd me.  Been playing Culdecept and losing miserably there.  Figure I'm going to put that on a hiatus and finish some other games (I.E. FFTactics, FFVIII, Indigo Prophecy, etc)

Won some free books from Librarything: "2012 and the Shift of the Ages" and "Uncertain Paradise: 1973".  Will put those on my 'to read' list along with the other 100+ books I have to get through.

Will try to write more frequent blogs.
